Manjaro 18.0.3 Gnome Edition - A Perfect Linux for Desktop

The new version of Manjaro 18.0.3 is now available with many improvements. I have been using Manjaro for some times and this new version is worth to upgrade to. It shipped with Linux Kernel 4.19 and Gnome Shell version 3.30.2. I am using Gnome version anyway. Manjaro is a good Linux for a new user. No matter if you are switching from Windows or any other Linux distribution, Manjaro should be easy to install. If installation to your physical PC is not an option, you can also install and run Manjaro on VirtualBox without problems. But make sure you install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Manjaro 18.0.3 afterward.

The new Manjaro 18.0.3 Gnome Edition features a clean and modern desktop. You can access all the applications using the Gnome menu on the bottom left of your screen. The default icon theme (Maia) is also beautiful even I need to change the wallpaper soon after I install it.

Installed Applications

By default, you will have some basic applications such as Mozilla Firefox as the default web browser, LibreOffice, TimeShift (backup software) and Transmission (BitTorrent client). If you like gaming, you will love Steam that included in the installation.
Another utility such as Gnome Tweaks also available. This is a useful tool to manage your Manjaro desktop look.

User Experiences

I am a fan of Gnome desktop environment. It is beautiful and very simple. But to be honest, this modern Gnome is not as comfortable as it looks. Still, I love the traditional application menu. If you like the traditional menu, you will find it in Manjaro 18.0.3 Gnome. You will have the old style menu as well as the modern Gnome application menu.

Even I run this distribution on my VirtualBox, the performance is still pretty good. The new version of Gnome seems not too heavy for a virtual machine.

How to Make Manjaro 18.0 Looks Like Mac

It's been a while I don't write on this blog. Today, I will start a new blog post about the upcoming Manjaro 18.0. Currently, it still in Beta version but we can download and try it. I would recommend to test it on a virtual machine or Live USB. Installing Manjaro 18.0 unstable on a production machine is not recommended.
Before we dig into the tutorial, let's see how my Manjaro 18.0 with Mac theme looks like. I am using Manjaro 18.0 GNOME edition which is great.

Well, it is not perfect but I think these are the best Mac OS theme for Linux. I tried several version but still, I am in love with this one. 

So, which theme and how to use it?

How to Install

Install GTK Themes

First, let's install the GTK3 themes we just downloaded. Extract the Sierra-light.tar.xz and Sierra-dark.tar.xz. It will produce new folders : sierra-light and sierra-dark. And then move the extracted folders to /usr/share/themes. You can use the following command to move the folders. 

sudo mv sierra-light /usr/share/themes
sudo mv sierra-light /usr/share/themes

At this point, we have successfully installed the Mac OS X Sierra GTK themes on Manjaro 18.0. 

Install Mac OS X Icon Theme

Next, extract the file MacOSX-icon-theme.tar.gz. It will produce a new folder called MacOSX. You need to move this folder to /usr/share/icons.

sudo mv MacOSX /usr/share/icons

In case you don't know how to extract the .tar.xz files, you can use this command

tar -xvf MacOSX-icon-theme.tar.xz

At this point, we have successfully installed Mac OS X icon theme on Manjaro.

Install Mac OS X Cursor

Now, we are going to install the Mac OS X cursor. Extract the file MacOSX-cursor.tar.xz and move the content of extracted folder to /usr/share/themes.

tar -xvf MacOSX-cursors.tar.xz
cd MacOSX-cursors
sudo mv capitaine-cursors /usr/share/themes

Please note that we need to move the capitaine-cursors subfolder, not the MacOSX-cursors folder. 

Install Mac OS X Fonts

Extract the Myriadset font and you will see some fonts like this:

To install the fonts, simply double-click each font and then click the install button. That's it, now we are ready to configure Manjaro using Gnome Tweaks. 

Apply the Mac OS X Theme

Open Tweaks, and then select theme, icon, cursor and some other things. See my settings below.

Don't forget to change the font

Manjaro 17.0.2 Cinnamon with MacOS Sierra Theme

Hello everyone, are you ready to tweak your Cinnamon style today? I just made some modification to my Manjaro 17.0.2 Cinnamon edition and I am pretty satisfied with the current look. Manjaro Cinnamon comes with a great desktop. Nothing wrong with the default style but I just want something more fresh. 

Like any other Linux distro, Manjaro 17.0.2 Cinnamon also open for modification. And today I will make some changes to my desktop with MacOS Sierra Theme. For your information, MacOS Sierra is developed by B00merang team and their page is available on github.

Manjaro 17.0.2 Cinnamon Screenshots Tour

This is the new version of Manjaro 17.0.2 Cinnamon edition. Its a lightweight Linux distribution for desktop. I run this Manjaro 17.0.2 Cinnamon on a Live USB and it performs pretty good. 

Manjaro 17.0.2 features an updated Manjaro Architect Installer, a text based and lightweight Manjaro installer. Its also available the graphical installer, Calamares. 

Technical Specifications of Manjaro 17.0.2

Under the hood, you will find Linux Kernel 4.9.34, a pretty recent version of Linux Kernel. And this can be updated to the most recent version. Manjaro 17.0.2 is powered by Cinnamon version 3.4.2. To be honest, Cinnamon is a great desktop environment. Its lightweight, smooth and also beautiful.

The software manager is now updated to version 4.3.7-1. Its a simple package manager for Linux desktop. 

Installed Applications

Manjaro Cinnamon 17.0.2 comes with bunch installed software. You can find Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird, GIMP and some others.
